New editor named for The Oxford Press

Cox Ohio Publishing has announced the hiring of a new Oxford Press editor, naming Meagan Engle as the head of the weekly newspaper.

Engle, 24, is only the fourth editor in the 77-year history of the Oxford Press, taking over duties from Bob Ratterman, who retired after 38 years with the paper.

A Butler County native, Engle had been covering schools and education for the Middletown Journal, which is also owned by Cox Ohio Publishing. She joined the staff there in January 2007, after receiving her journalism degree from Ohio State University.

Engle has a wide range of reporting experience, having covered police and the communities of Franklin and Carlisle in her time with the Journal.

“Meagan has distinguished herself as a thorough reporter with an engaging style who can do it all — from covering several school districts, to breaking news, to showing extreme sensitivity when interviewing cancer patients,” said Kira Lisa Warren, the editor of Cox Ohio’s group of daily and weekly newspapers in Butler and Warren counties. “She is a rising star who will serve Oxford Press readers well with her talent and intelligence.”

Engle said her first days in the new post have been exciting, with a lot of time dedicated to getting to know Oxford and meeting community leaders.

“I am really enjoying working in the Oxford community, and am looking forward to continuing the long tradition of the newspaper,” she said.

Engle can be reached at (513) 523-4139, ext. 9, or by e-mail at mengle@coxohio.com.

...if the new editor will institute a more stringent proofreading policy, will always double-check spelling, will make sure any stories that also run in other area papers have a true Oxford angle, and will adequately cover local sports.

I sincerely hope so, and will be reading carefully....
wondering...
