OXFORD — Seventeen students on Miami University’s Campus Activities Council have put together an event to display the Frozen Four semi-final hockey game at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in Central Quad.
Students and participants will have a chance to watch the game on a 24-foot screen, win prizes and purchase food from Miami Concessions. Those coming to cheer on Miami’s hockey team are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to sit on.
Miami plays Boston College in Detroit on Thursday in the national semi-finals. CAC’s Spirit Board has labeled the event “The Road to Victory, Frozen Four 2010.”
“We are giving away 300 free T-shirts and foam fingers, and we are going to do a raffle in order for people to win the three signed hockey jerseys,” said Dana Foster, one of Spirit Board’s co-chairs.
“This is an awesome way to promote the hockey game. Not only are the students receiving free things, but they are also able to watch the game on a TV bigger than any bar has. Also, students are able to use their meal plans in order to purchase food from the Miami Concessions,” Foster said.
The 17-member Spirit Board came up with the idea for the event. The CAC Executive Board is also assisting with the event.
“Spirit Board was throwing out different ideas on what we could do for our last event of the year, and we thought ‘What else would be better than supporting our Miami Hockey Team in the Frozen Four?’” Foster said.
The event itself has cost around $3,500, which includes the inflatable screen, Miami Concessions, T-shirts, foam fingers and advertisements.
