OXFORD — Miami University students will host public conversations to commemorate 9/11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, on the plaza at King Library.

The community is encouraged to share reflections, remembrances and observations about life in post-9/11 United States.

Students in American Studies 301: Practice of American Studies: Public Stories, organized the local event in conjunction with the national September Project.

“This event is a way for us to remember those who lost their lives and were affected, as well as a way to support our troops,” said senior Jacob Mercer.

This is the third time that Miami University participated in The September Project.

The September Project is a coordinated effort to foster public events in all libraries in all countries in September. Since 2004 libraries across the world have organized events about freedom and issues that matter to their communities during the month of September. This grassroots project favors free over fee, public over private, and voice over silence. To date, more than 1,200 public, academic, school, government and special libraries in 35 countries have hosted and organized September Project events.

Miami librarians Jenny Presnell and Jason Jackson collaborated with Kelly Quinn, assistant professor of American Studies, on this event.
