OXFORD — Get in the holiday spirit tonight as Oxford area musicians perform Songs of the Season, the fourth annual benefit concert for the Oxford Community Arts Center.
The concert, which starts at 8 p.m. at the center, 10 S. College Ave., is $10 at the door for adults and free to children under 12.
Lisa Biales, Laurie Traveline Neyer, John Kogge, John Bercaw, Susan Pepper, Vicky Agee, Sirenz and others will perform their holiday favorites as a way to give back to the center, according to Executive Director Caroline Croswell.
“There will be group work and then some individual sets of different musicians,” Croswell said. “Inevitably, there’ll be two or three more who step up and play with them and it shows a real camaraderie amongst musicians.”
Croswell describes the music as mostly blues, folk, jazz with some rock.
Kogge said musicians will usually sing, play guitar keyboard and accordion and more.
Kogge said he plans to sing “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” “Jingle Bells” and other holiday favorites.
“It will be a folkie Christmas... We also have a piano player playing with us named John Bercaw, who is an incredible jazz pianist. I can’t tell you how good he is... He puts this jazz spin into the folk music,” Kogge said.
Kogge said the concert is for anybody “who likes good music and interesting music.”
The money earned from the concert will be used for the center’s operating expenses, Croswell said. The center expects a large turnout after previous Songs of the Season concerts filled up quickly.
“I hope people come. We do it every year and hope for the best. We work hard for it,” Kogge said.
