Home sales in Butler County were slightly up in 2011, according to new statistics released today.

Home sales for all of Greater Cincinnati were slightly down in 2011. A total 16,824 single family houses and condos were sold in 2011 in Greater Cincinnati, including Butler and Warren counties. That’s a decrease of 0.7 percent compared to 16,937 sales in 2010 in the region, according to Ohio Association of Realtors.

The region’s average sales price for homes in 2011 was $151,403, a 4.5 percent decline from 2010 of average prices of $158,560, according to the state association.

Home sales are among the latest economic indicators released for the year-end 2011.

Ohio Department of Job and Family Services also released today new monthly unemployment rates. Ohio’s unemployment rate in December was 8.1 percent, a drop from the month before of 8.5 percent. That makes Ohio’s average unemployment rate in 2011 8.8 percent, according to Ohio Job and Family Services.

County, city and metropolitan area unemployment rates will be released Tuesday.

RealtyTrac Inc., a California-based website that monitors default notices, bank repossessions and scheduled auctions across the nation, released Jan. 12 the number of foreclosure filings made in 2011. The local number showed Butler County had the worst foreclosure rate in the state last year of 1 in every 43 homes receiving some time of foreclosure filing. Butler County had 3,330 foreclosure filings against properties in 2011, only three filings less than was made in 2010, according to RealtyTrac.
