OXFORD — Soprano Dana Lentini and guitarist/composer James Lentini, who is dean of Miami University’s School of Fine Arts, will perform a free concert at the Midday Music in Oxford series at noon Wednesday, March 10, at the Oxford Presbyterian Church, 101 N. Main St. in Oxford.
The husband and wife performers have appeared throughout the Midwest, the East Coast and internationally at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, but this will be their first public performance in Oxford.
All are welcome to hear music from the 16th century to the present, including works by Dr. Lentini and Leonard Bernstein.
Among his many awards, James Lentini is a recipient of the Segovia International Composition Prize and the McHugh Composition Prize.
A new CD of his works, entitled “Orchestra Hall Suite,” has recently been released on the Naxos label’s American Classics Series. His music also appears on other labels.
His works have been performed by distinguished guitarists and ensembles such as as the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra.
His work also has been played by members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, as well as the premiere performance by the Miami University Symphony Orchestra on Feb. 16 of his Symphony No. 1 “Through Time and Place,” which was completed in 2009.
In 2007, Lentini accepted an appointment as dean and professor of music of the School of Fine Arts at Miami University.
Lyric soprano Dana Lentini has sung roles with several opera companies and ensembles throughout the U.S., including the Michigan Opera Theatre and the Toledo Opera. She has been a featured soloist with several symphony orchestras, and has performed at the Detroit Art Institute.
From 2002 to 2004, Dana Lentini received a Detroit Music Award as “Best Classical Singer” from the Motor City Foundation.
She was a faculty member of the music department at the College of New Jersey, and maintains a private studio in Oxford for students of middle school age through adults.
On a “Cincinnati Spotlight” feature, the Lentinis will discuss the Oxford recital sometime between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, on Cincinnati’s FM radio station WGUC (90.9).
