OXFORD TWP. — After 15 months of construction, Hueston Woods State Park has opened a new attraction that offers the perfect getaway.

The park recently dedicated a new 36-hole disc golf course – a unique opportunity to ditch the traditional club and ball for a flying disc.

Disctractions, as it has been named, went under construction March of 2009, designed by Hank Rodrick, his right hand man Brandon Roehm and numerous volunteers.

“This place is what is keeping me alive,” Rodrick said. “I can easily spend 12 or 13 hours a day here.”

The estimated $11,900 course is up and running for anyone willing to experience a scenic adventure through the woods. There is no fee to play, but participants must bring their own equipment.

Organizers say the course will be a draw to Miami University students.

“For years, Hueston Woods has been trying to get a bus route to go out there. Now with this establishment, we believe we can justify the route to come,” Rodrick said.

Disctractions is different than any other disc golf course in Ohio. Compared to the other five courses alone in the Cincinnati area, this course offers more than what is expected.

Despite hot heat in the summer, the woods provide a blanket of fresh air. The design of the course itself is exhilarating and unique with narrow fairways, dynamic distances and elevation changes – offering a challenge for the even the toughest competitor.

On July 24 daytime clinics and after dark sessions will be available for both ultimate and disc golf competitors at Bridgewater Falls in Fairfield Twp. Hueston Woods is also looking to host The Northwest Territory Two-Day Tournament. Those interested can go online to sweeteesdiscgolf.com for more information.
