FAIRFIELD — The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Butler County is hosting a free 12-week “Family to Family” series starting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21.
These weekly educational classes are for families who have a relative with one of the major mental health disorders — such as bipolar illness, severe depression, schizophrenia, PTSD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders and anxiety disorders.
Classes, which run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each Tuesday, cover such topics as medications, basics of brain biology, communication and coping skills, taking care of the caretaker, mental health resources in Butler County and other timely topics.
The classes offer hope, help and information to families in a comfortable environment for open discussion of mental illnesses and their impact on families’ lives. In testimony to the value of Family to Family, two recent graduates of the program said: “From the very first week I knew that I had found what I needed: tremendous support and great information to help my loved one” and “My wife and I were very impressed with the course content and the knowledge and professionalism of the instructors.”
The classes are taught by family members who have received extensive training by NAMI Ohio. The class size is limited and registration is required. To register for the classes or for additional information call NAMI Butler County at (513) 860-8387.
