OXFORD — Miami University has named its three finalists for dean of its regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown and the Voice of American Learning Center in West Chester Twp.

Finalists are:

• Kevin Corcoran, professor of the department of psychological science at Northern Kentucky University. Corcoran oversees the largest college at a state university in Kentucky. He previously worked at the University of Cincinnati as the head of the psychology department.

• David Pearson, special assistant to the provost of the University of Texas Brownsville. Pearson works at a rapidly growing regional comprehensive university with 12,000 students and thousands more participating in a dual enrollment program.

• G. Michael Pratt, associate vice president for academic affairs at Heidelberg University. Pratt, a Middletown native, attended Miami University Middletown and graduated from the Oxford campus in 1973. He went on to earn a master’s and doctorate at Case Western Reserve University. He’s been working at Heidelberg since 1983 with increasingly senior positions.

Miami University President David Hodge said the candidates will meet the regional campus advisory committees and the communities at large in the coming weeks.

“I think we’ve got three very strong finalists with different types of experience, but they’re all very experienced administrators,” Hodge said.

“We’ll be having some open forums for the community in a place where anybody who wants to can come,” he said.

The regional campuses are located in Hamilton, Middletown and West Chester Twp.

Hodge said everyone is invited to read the candidates’ letters of interest and resumes posted at muohio.edu/secretary. The university is also arranging several opportunities for the community to interact with the candidates and to ask questions.

After the forums, the search committee will compile all feedback and evaluate what they see as the candidates’ strengths and weaknesses.

I wonder if Hamilton Student has been on the campus recently? The classrooms are in the best condition ever. I have had classes in Oxford and Middletown and the classrooms on those campuses are not in as good of shape, except for the new buildings in Oxford. Apparently Hamilton Student didn't trip on the broken concrete in the courtyard between Mosler and Rentchler. It looked horrible. I don't know the dean but I heard he brought more bachelors degrees and scholarships. Great!

To all of the kiss-ups of Dean Hall... STOP! In my opionion, the dean is too much for himself. It truely frustrated me when he had his office suite remodeled before fixing the ceiling tiles in the run down classrooms of Mosler hall. By the way, how much did that cost? Let us not forget that the students are what make up the University. Without us, there would be no school. Thank god that this dean will be gone!
P.S.- The remodel of the court yard between Mosler and Rentchler wasn't necessary!

After having served on two Dean search committees for MU, it's no surprise that the best candidate for the Regional position, Daniel Hall, was overlooked. The Main is clueless when it comes to functions off campus and Hall was too community and civic-minded for their taste. I personally thank him for his outstanding leadership and work. I hope he finds a position and university that appreciates his dedication to collaboration and his tireless efforts to give the university a better public face.

Segh has it right. The answer to why Hodge wasted money on a search and refused to make Hall in charge of both campuses is clear. Just as happened before (does anyone remember Doug Reed?), Hamilton had a director that was interested in helping students and the City. This is a lesson to the new directgor - do as you are told by Hodge and love Oxford, not the campuses you will direct.

Promotion from within can equal the good old boys network just perpetuating itself.

Doesn't matter how many degrees you have, either, it is about quality not quantity.

One more thing, male dominated systems are always corrupt.
