Alex Vikartofsky waited two hours – and four years – to get a burrito bowl from Chipotle in Oxford.

The Miami University senior started a line outside the grand opening of Chipotle Mexican Grill at 1 W. High St. at 9 a.m. today, Nov. 6.

Vikartofsky said she has been wishing for the restaurant to come to Oxford since she arrived on campus her freshman year.

“I am obsessed with Chipotle,” she said as she sat down to enjoy her order – the first meal ever served – a chicken fajita burrito bowl, no beans. “It’s made my year without a doubt.”

Vikartofsky came out early today set to be the first customer. She brought her friend, Miami junior Megan Cardosi. The two led a crowd that filled the corner shop as they opened the doors for the first time at about 10:50 a.m.

“I think it was worth it,” Cardosi said.

Chipotle is offering T-shirts and a drawing for free burritos for a year today.

The restaurant will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

its he same thing as qdoba...who cares? what we need is for the city to allow real resturants to build outside of the square mile of downtown. i heard applebees wanted to build next to walmart, but the city wouldnt allow a liquor license so they pulled out. how rediculous is that? finally, a place for people to go sit down with family and eat without having to standing behind 50 students for a crappy burrito. think city counsel for once in your lives.....

Having traveled in Juarez, Neuvo Laredo, Matamoros, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and other smaller locales I will tell you this, Chipotle is about as close to Mexican food as a Ford Focus is to a Porsche.

Europeans may have run the spice trade during colonials times, but they never decided to use the spices. Ohio's food is a perfect example of that. So is Chipotle, Buffalo Wild Wing's, Pizza Hut, Papa John's, etc.

Travel the world. Then, you'll find good food.

Oxford will have as many Mexican restaurants or other types of businesses as it can support, or as business people choose to open.

Oxford is a very small town mostly comprised of transient students, and about 8500 permanent residents with low average income levels. Your parents income doesn't matter to retailers as they do not live here.

Count yourself fortunate to have a Kroger and Walmart in a town this size. If Chipotle is your idea is good Mexican food, try Taco Bell as well.

Jenny,
Chipotle came here because a franchisee (**rhymes with Broadbro**) is paying for the right. Chipotle doesn't just go around opening stores, a franchisee purchases the rights and pays for it to come in. That owner, who shall remain unnamed, chose it over others. And you're right about the demographics etc.; too bad we have 3 other similar restaurants in the same area. Thanks for the validation though.

It was worth all the wait and all four years!
