Cooler weather expected locally; storms brewing in Atlantic, Pacific oceans

High school football game spectators may need a light jacket today, Aug. 27, but may exchange it for sunscreen this weekend.

Temperatures are expected to drop into the mid-50s tonight, Aug. 27 by the time the high school football season kicks off.

Temperatures will climb into the high-80s on Saturday and mid-90s on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. No rain is expected this weekend.

Hurricane season

The Associated Press is reporting Hurricane Danielle has become a Category 4 storm far out over the Atlantic.

Danielle’s maximum sustained winds increased today, Aug. 27 to near 135 miles per hour with some additional strengthening possible.

Danielle is located about 545 miles southeast of Bermuda. The hurricane is forecast to pass east of Bermuda on Saturday night, Aug. 28.

Also in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Earl is moving west with maximum sustained winds near 45 mph.

And in the Pacific, Hurricane Frank has weakened slightly off Mexico’s coast. Further weakening is expected over the next couple days as the hurricane moves over cooler waters.
