Jewelry sale benefits animal rescue

Local kids put on children’s theater on Aug. 13

The Miami University Performing Arts Series presents Missoula Children’s Theatre’s “Robinson Crusoe” at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13 in Hall Auditorium. The performance is an original adaptation of this classic children’s story and features 58 local students, ages 7-14.

The performance is the culmination of a week-long summer camp with Missoula Children’s Theatre. Each day, the participants have experienced enrichment workshops and rehearsals presented by Missoula Children’s Theatre staff as well as students from Miami University.

Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project.

“Robinson Crusoe” is presented is sponsored by the Talawanda-Miami Partnership. The Ohio Arts Council helped fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. Tickets are $5. First American to hold school supply drive

Now through Aug. 13, First American Loans, located at 5146 College Corner Pike, will be collecting school supplies to be donated to the Family Resource Center’s Back to School Festival.

Oxford Bible Fellowship to hold VBS

Oxford Bible Fellowship will be a Vacation Bible School, High Seas Expedition, from 6:30 to 9:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, through Thursday, Aug. 12. To register, call (513) 523-5300 or go online to obf.org.

Quakers travel to Richmond for yearly meeting

Oxford Friends Meeting (Quakers) will travel to Richmond, Ind., on Sunday, Aug. 1, to join other Quakers from the region for the yearly meeting. Regular meetings will resume at 10 a.m. Aug. 8 at the Campus Ministry Center. Child care is provided and all are welcome. For more information, call (513) 523-1061.

Sports center offers free fitness week

The Miami Recreational Sports Center will offer all land and water group fitness classes for free Aug. 23-29. To see a schedule, go online to muohio.edu/groupfitness.

The center will be closed Aug. 2-15 for facility maintenance.

There also will be reduced hours of 6 to 11 p.m. Aug. 22 for staff training.

Ice cream social to be held at church

Darrtown United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream social from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at Walnut and Oxford streets in Darrtown.

The church is handicap accessible and takeout is available. A menu of barbecue, chicken sandwiches, homemade noodles and more will be available.
