HAMILTON — Local residents will have the chance to speak with U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner on issues such as health care reform during the Red Carpet Luncheon next week.

The luncheon, sponsored by the Greater Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and Hamilton’s Rotary Club, is set for 11:45 a.m. Nov. 12 at the Courtyard by Marriott–Hamilton.

The West Chester Twp. Republican is expected to discuss several topics that could affect local businesses, including cap and trade, the Employee Free Choice Act and health care reform legislation.

“The timing we think is quite good for the event with the way health care is working through Congress right now,” said Kenny Craig, president of the chamber. “We’ll be able to hear from our representative and the minority leader what he thinks is going on right now.”

The chamber has come out against cap and trade legislation, a plan Craig said could unfairly raise electric rates for businesses compared to the rest of the country, and the Employee Free Choice Act, which would change how unions are allowed to organize workers.

However, Craig said the chamber has not made a decision on where it stands on health care reform, as “we don’t have a version we can take a position on because there is so many different ones,” he said.

Craig said he is hoping Boehner will be able to share some information on the different versions and where the legislation stands.

The event will also include a question-and-answer session for attendees. It is open to the public. Craig is expecting about 150 people to attend. The cost is $20 for chamber members and $25 for non-members. Reservations will be accepted through Monday, Nov. 9.
