HAMILTON — Recognition from his teachers, peers and family for collecting more than $100,000 in scholarships was “a big honor,” said Badin High School senior Bobby Moran.
The 18-year-old was among members of the Class of 2009 honored Wednesday, May 20, at the school’s third annual academic signing day.
“It feels great, fantastic,” said Moran, who is set to attend the honors college at Ball State University. “But the real honor was that people took the time to recognize all my hard work at school and in extracurriculars and gave me money for my education because of it.”
The top 10 students in the class as well as the 16 students who have been offered more than $100,000 in scholarships were honored.
“It feels good to know that all that hard work finally paid off,” said Jamiee Harbin, who was a top 10 student and has amassed more than $200,000 in scholarship offers. “At Badin we have different levels of classes and I didn’t get to be in classes with some of my best friends, but it feels good knowing that it was a good thing and it was worth it.”
The 18-year-old plans to attend the University of Virginia, where she will major in human biology.
Two students are tied for No. 1 in the class — Ben Motley, who has been accepted into the NEOUCOM medical school program, and Matt Roesch, who will attend the University of Notre Dame to major in business.
Other members of Badin’s Top 10 and their college of choice are Jake Benzing (Ohio State), Lauren Ceronie (Miami University), Marie Fisher (Miami University), Kelly Hoerst (DePauw University), Jonathan Kuhl (Xavier University), Kara Martini (Ohio State) and Amanda Schwarz (University of Cincinnati).
“We truly enjoy the opportunity to recognize these outstanding seniors,” said Principal Frank Margello. “These students have worked hard; they have been very successful; and this is just the start of many good things for them as they move forward beyond Badin High School.”
