Air Force promotes Miami graduate

Air Force Lt. Col. John M. Harrison has been selected for promotion to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Air Force.

Harrison is a deputy chief of space and cyberspace division assigned to the U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Neb. He has served in the military for 22 years.

The colonel graduated in 1984 from Preble Shawnee High School, Camden, and received a bachelor’s degree in 1988 from Miami University, Oxford.

He is the son of Ota B. Harrison of Greenwood Road, Middletown.

Former Oxford woman turns 98

A former Oxford resident recently celebrated her 98th birthday in Hudson, Fla.

Mildred Mattix, who lived on Brown Road, turned 98 on Feb. 10.

She is the widow of Carl Mattix, who was well known for his work with the Izaak Walton League. Her current address is Braybrook, 7532 State Road 52, Hudson, Fla.

Her daughter, Jauneta Stout and her husband, Jim Stout, live near Liberty, Ind.

In Florida, Mildred is surrounded by family, including Bud and Eunice Mattix, Gary and Lois Mattix, Brenda and Roy Sibley, Steve and Beverly Mattix and Mike and Susan Mattix.

Ratliff named to college honor roll

Holly Lynne Ratliff, a senior at Washington and Lee University, has earned honor roll status for the recently ended fall term.

Honor roll status at Washington and Lee represents a term grade-average of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Ratliff of Oxford.
