HAMILTON — More than $20,000 in grant money was recently awarded to a handful of local governments, businesses, schools and non-profit organizations throughout Butler County.
The Butler County Recycling and Solid Waste District’s 2010 recycling incentive grant program provides funds on a competitive basis, requiring recipients to provide a grant match. Grant awards range anywhere from $200 up to $2,500.
Among those receiving grant money in 2010 are Miami University, McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, YWCA of Hamilton and Keep Middletown Beautiful.
Grant recipients will put the money toward programs ranging from expanding recycling facilities and purchasing new recycling bins to establishing recycling collection points and pickup services for local parks and sporting event facilities.
Miami University is set to use its grant money to begin electronic media recycling through GreenDisk, a Washington-based company specializing in wiping data from CDs, DVDs, computers, cell phones and other equipment and then repurposing those same items.
