Versailles runner wins Wendy’s Heisman

VERSAILLES, Darke County —

A local Eagle Scout and star runner has won the national Wendy’s High School Heisman award.

Samuel Prakel, of Versailles High School in Darke County, was named the winner at a ceremony Friday night in New York City, according to a news release about the event.

Zoe Alaniz, of W. B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, was the winner among female student athletes.

They were selected among six male and six female national finalists.

Prakel ran cross country and track and participated in aquatic sports in high school. He will receive a crystal Wendy’s High School Heisman trophy, a $10,000 donation to his and her high school and a $500 Wendy’s gift card, along with an appearance on Saturday’s live Heisman Trophy broadcast on ESPN.
