OXFORD —

Talawanda High School’s ice hockey team opens the 2012-13 season with four games today through Sunday, Nov. 23-25, in the annual DiPaolo high school tournament which the THS program hosts at the Goggin Ice Center over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Second-year Talawanda coach Steve McGrinder will lead the Braves against four teams which finished last season ranked in the top 12 in the state, including No. 1.

Talawanda will play twice today and one game each on Saturday and Sunday. All four games will be on the “A” pad at Steve Cady Arena.

The Braves will open the season at 12:30 p.m. today against Liberty, ranked number 12 at the end of last year, and will take to the ice again at 7:30 p.m. against last year’s sixth-ranked team, St. John’s.

Saturday’s game will pit the Braves against last year’s top-ranked team, St. Ignatius, at 3:15 p.m. and on Sunday they will face last year’s No. 8 squad, Lake Catholic, at 10:45 a.m.

Those will be just four of 20 games being played this weekend among 10 teams, five varsity squads and five junior varsity teams.
