HAMILTON —

The Butler County Board of Elections has certified the more than 6,000 provisional ballots from the Nov. 6 election.

The 5,697 provisional ballots and 400 valid absentee ballots received by mail narrowed some races, but were not enough to change the outcome for any candidate or issue.

“We are talking fractions of a percent as far as changes go,” said Jocelyn Bucaro, board of elections deputy director.

The board met Tuesday to certify the election.

According to official results, 71.32 percent of the county’s 239,993 voters cast ballots. The county, which is a Republican strong hold, heavily favored GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney with 105,175 votes to 62,386 votes for Democratic candidate President Barack Obama.

The unofficial tally was Romney 102,226 to 59,282 for Obama.

Republican county commission candidate TC Rogers received 92,596 votes, with Democrat Jodi Billerman receiving 50,067 and Libertarian Daryl Olthaus receiving 10,883 votes. The unofficial count for the commission race was Rogers, 90,141; Billerman, 47,706; and Olthaus, 10,423.

The official tally for Middletown’s 5-year, 1-mill senior center levy is 9,805 for and 6,923 against. The unofficial tally was 9,274 for the levy and 6,629 against.

The Monroe schools 5-year, 7.05-mill levy passed with the official tally of 3,496 for and 2,867 against. The unofficial count for that levy was 3,376 for and 2,799 against.

Bucaro said the county commission race was randomly chosen as the race to audit as part of the state’s election requirements. That deadline is the end of December.
