HAMILTON —

A Hamilton man has been indicted on murder with weapons charges for allegedly shooting and killing a man last month in the parking lot of a Hancock Avenue bar.

A Butler County grand jury returned the indictment Tuesday against Myron Lamar “Cowboy” Doby, 55, of Front Street. He is accused of the fatal shooting of Donnell Holland during the early morning hours of Dec. 28. He was arraigned by Common Pleas Court Magistrate Ron James just hours after the four-count indictment was handed down.

Doby faces four felony charges — two counts of murder with firearm specifications and two counts of having weapons under disability. His attorneys Mike Shanks and Chris Pagan requested a hearing for 8:30 a.m. Jan. 23 to discuss bond. Doby will be held in the Butler County Jail without bond until then.

“There are two sides to this case,” Shanks said, noting Doby’s side would come out in court.

Shanks said, according to police, there was a confrontation between the men prior to the shooting.

Holland, 44, of Hamilton, was found fatally shot around 1:45 a.m. on Dec. 28. Holland was a 1986 graduate of Hamilton High School, according to his Facebook profile. He was remembered Friday by friends as a caring assistant coach for Hamilton Little Blue Football.

Doby has more than 100 cases in Hamilton Municipal Court dating back to 1985 for traffic charges, drug charges, weapons violations, assault and robbery.

Rachel McCoy, of Hamilton Big Blue Football where Holland was an assistant coach, attended the arraignment with a friend. She shared fliers for spaghetti dinner on Saturday to benefit Holland’s children.

“He was really a great guy,” McCoy said. “He loved the kids and they loved him. A real asset to the program.”

The dinner will be held at Fairwood Elementary School on North Fair Avenue in Hamilton from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at Jerseys Unlimited on Pleasant Avenue in Fairfield or by calling McCoy at 513-907-0938.
