Sorry, local lottery players, it appears your get-really-really-rich dreams will have to wait.
The two winning tickets in the Friday, Aug. 28, Mega Millions drawing were purchased in San Gabriel, Calif., and the Bronx, New York.
The jackpot was $333 million, with a lump-sum value of $210 million, meaning each of the two winning tickets has a value of $105 million before taxes. Depending on local income tax law, each winner is likely to take home close to $70 million after taxes.
The Mega Millions jackpot will go back to its starting level of $12 million for Tuesday’s drawing. That means an Ohio winner Tuesday would be able to pocket “only” about $5 million after taxes and the lump-sum discount.
Mega Millions lists the odds of winning its jackpot at 1 in 175 million, and the odds of winning any prize (starting as low as $2) at 1 in 40.
