MILFORD TWP. — Two Hamilton County teenagers were killed in a crash when a semi collided with their vehicle Thursday afternoon.
Sgt. Randy Lambert with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office confirmed late Thursday night that Miranda Lane, 17 of Colerain Twp., and Mathilde Jessen, 16 of Green Twp., died at the scene of the crash reported at 4:16 p.m. at the intersection of Ohio 73 and U.S. 127 near Collinsville.
Preliminary investigations indicate the car, a Honda Civic driven by Lane, failed to yield to the oncoming tractor trailer, officials said.
The driver of the semi, Steve Fish of West Harrison, Ind., was uninjured, Lambert said.
A third vehicle, a pick-up truck, was struck and flipped over as a result of the crash. The driver, Edward Schatzle, 61 of Milford Twp., was taken to the University Hospital in Cincinnati by medical helicopter with minor injuries, according to Lambert.
Jason Robinson, who lives near the intersection on Ohio 73, said he did not witness the accident, but went down to the scene after hearing the sirens from the Milford Twp. Administration Building.
“It’s a bad accident all around,” Robinson said. “There is a long history of accidents at this intersection. I’ve seen accidents like this and it just ain’t worth it. It’s needless. Pointless.
“It’s shocking,” he said. “They haven’t even started living yet. What a waste of life.”
Officials from the Butler County Coroner’s Office, the Seven Mile Fire Department, the Somerville Fire Department and Milford Twp. Fire Department and Life Squad responded to the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
