Ohio family surprised on ‘Ellen’ today

By News Staff

LOS ANGELES, Calif. —

An Ohio family appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Thursday. The episode aired at 4 p.m. on WHIO-TV.

Host Ellen DeGeneres surprised Xenia resident Ry’Shonda Fields and her four children, Darriel, 16, Jalen, 8 and Corey and Chloe, 7-year-old twins. They were given the funds to pay for college for the children.

Money given to them was donated by the website Shutterfly.com.

According to Ellen producers, Ellen became interested in Fields when she received a note from her wishing to thank a woman in the local rotary club. That woman, Diane Tobly, has been giving aid to Fields’ family during the holidays for the last three years.

Ellen was impressed with Fields’ desire to return favor to Tobly, and decided to aid Fields.

In the episode, Ellen made a call-out to local schools stating Fields is seeking a job and to consider hiring her.
