OXFORD — Miami University’s regional director for admission and financial aid has voluntarily resigned in the wake of an investigation into an alleged violation of university policy.

Archie Nelson, who appears in advertisements for the university’s Middletown and Hamilton satellite campuses, was placed on leave Feb. 6 while the investigation was being conducted by the university’s Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity, which deals with harassment or discrimination-related concerns.

According to Miami University spokesperson Claire Wagner, the investigation process has ended as a result of his resignation, which is effective June 30, the end of the university’s fiscal year.

Until then, he will not be working as the regional director for admission and financial aid, but will be working at home on special projects for the dean of regional campuses. The nature of those projects are yet to be determined, according to Perry Richardson, spokesperson for the regional campuses.

Nelson could not be reached for comment.

Nelson earned two associate degrees in business during his 22-year Navy career and completed a bachelor’s degree just before he got out, but could not get a business career going and enrolled at Miami University Hamilton in the 1990s to start working on a master’s degree.

After one year, he was offered a job as a veteran’s peer rep. He subsequently became a counselor, then the assistant director of admissions.

Then, as he moved into a director’s position, he started to tie recruiting and financial aid together as a singular process.
