Meteor shower may be visible this weekend

SOUTHWEST OHIO —

Some parts of Southwest Ohio will see rain throughout Friday evening, most of it light, as temperatures drop into the low 40s.

Saturday will start off in the low 40s and reach the mid 50s by afternoon. Sunshine is expected at times throughout the day and the clouds will break up and clear out, allowing for the possibility of seeing some meteors in the evening, said Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson.

“Oroinid meteor shower peaks from Saturday night through mid week. The best time to see them is a few hours before sunrise after the first quarter moon sets,” Simpson said. “Look to the southeast as the constellation Orion rises and the meteors should be centered near there.

“That is how the shower gets its name,” he said. “At its best, over 20 meteors per hour may be seen.”

Skies will be clear again Sunday night into Monday morning, affording a good opportunity for viewing. Temperatures will reach the mid 60s Sunday afternoon and the low 70s Monday afternoon.
