It’ll be dry for pre-Thanksgiving Day travel

MIAMI VALLEY —

The chance of any passing sprinkles diminishes early this evening, but some clouds will linger overnight as temperatures in the Miami Valley will drop through the 50s into the upper 40s, said Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson.

Wednesday, the big travel day before Thanksgiving Day, will start with some clouds at sunrise, but it will gradually become sunnier. It is expected to be dry anywhere close to the News Center 7 viewing area but those heading east will move with the current clouds. Travelers heading west will see sunshine. Weather will be mild with afternoon highs approaching 60, though most will end up in the upper 50s, said Simpson.

“Potential weather woes for travel Wednesday look to only be in the Pacific Northwest, where a huge storm continues to bring flooding rains to lower elevations and snow to the mountains. That is the system that will bring us some rain Friday then colder air behind it for the weekend. However, it will weaken considerably after it passes east of the Rocky Mountains,” said Simpson.

Thanksgiving will be sunny all day. Early temperatures will be in the upper 30s and afternoon highs right around 60 . For those participating in the Turkey Trot in Miamisburg, temperatures will be in the lower 40s when it starts.

Rain may be moving in as the door-busters start Black Friday, said Simpson. Rain is likely to arrive at about 4 or 5 a.m. and will end around noontime. The Miami Valley will even see some sun return in the afternoon. A morning cold front ends any chance of another mild day with highs in the upper 40s.

The weekend will be dry but chilly with both days starting in the 20s. Saturday temperatures may not make it back to the 40s because of clouds. More sun on Sunday should allow for lows in the mid 40s in the afternoon .
