Youth Basketball League Registration

Oxford Parks and Recreation is accepting registrations for the Youth Basketball League through Oct. 6.

Boys and Girls grades K-10 are invited to participate. Evaluations will be held in October (all players will be placed on a team). Practices will begin after Thanksgiving and games will begin on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Instructional league (K -2) practice/game times to be determined. Register by Oct. 6 at Oxford Parks and Recreation Department, located at 6025 Fairfield Road. A $10 late fee will be assessed to all late registrations.

Extreme Wolf Encounter

A fun afternoon at the Wolf Creek Habitat and Rescue (WolfCreekHabitat.org) is planned 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 11:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

During the trip participants will get a personal encounter with the wolves. There also will be a Native American gathering where participants can experience the spirit of the past and present of Native tribes.

Register at the Oxford Parks and Recreation Department. The registration fee is $15 for residents and $18 for non-residents. Call (513) 523-6314 for more information.

Fall Fun Day

School is out on Oct. 12 and Oxford Parks and Recreation has the perfect solution for parents: send your kids to the TRI Center for a fun-filled fall escape, Fall Fun Day (for K-fifth grade), from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

We will spend our day playing games, crafts and a go on a field trip to Butterfield Farms to walk the maze, go on a hayride and roast hot dogs and smores. In the case of pouring rain, we will stay at the TRI Center and decorate pumpkins, roast hot dogs and make smores. Please bring a morning snack and drink and an afternoon snack and drink.

The registration Fee is $35 for residents and $39 for non-residents with a minimum of six and maximum of 10. Register by Oct. 8 at the Oxford Parks and Recreation Department.

Ghoulish Treats

There is hands-on cooking fun for kids 8-12 years old who will learn beginning cooking skills while preparing delicious treats in this one-day class on Oct. 20. October treats include mummy dogs, monster claws, bloodshot eyeballs and more.

There are two sessions per day at Oxford Senior Citizens Center, 922 Tollgate Drive. Times are 10 a.m. to noon for the first session and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. for the second session.

Fees are $20 per class for residents, $22 per class for non-residents, with a minimum of eight and maximum of 10 per session. The registration deadline is Oct. 13.

Candy, costumes and pumpkins

An event will be held at Uptown Parks from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 at which children can play games and win candy. There will be a pet costume contest with prizes to be awarded at 6 p.m. for the cutest, scariest and most original. There also will be a pumpkin decorating/carving contest with prizes to be awarded at 6 p.m. for the most original design, funniest and scariest

USS Nightmare (grades 6-12)

Come aboard the USS Nightmare on Nov. 3 if you dare! Join us for a trip to America’s premier haunted steamboat. The haunted tour of the historic dredge with 30 minutes of bone-chilling fear as fright seekers meander through the eerie rooms and corridors of the massive old boat. Transportation provided in the Parks and Recreation Department van, which will leave the TRI Center at 5:30 p.m. Fees are $25 for residents and $27 for non-residents (minimum eight, maximum 10). Register by Oct. 27 at Oxford Parks and Recreation Department.
