OXFORD —

Freshman Roderick Lawrence has been dismissed from the Miami University men’s basketball team for reasons of detrimental conduct, head coach John Cooper announced last Friday.

“These decisions are never easy, but there are standards for a Miami University men’s basketball player to which our young men must adhere,” Cooper said.

Lawrence, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound shooting guard from Orlando, Fla., averaged 16.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 3.1 assists as a senior at Dr. Phillips High School, which went 23-6 overall, 7-0 in league play.

Lawrence originally had signed with Morehead State, but pulled out when Morehead State went through a coaching change, and he chose Miami over Penn State.

He was one of three players signed in Cooper’s first recruiting class at Miami. The others are guards Geovonie McKnight of Middletown and Reggie Johnson, Jr. of Chicago.
