School board to discuss possible construction

The Talawanda School District Board of Education will have a work session at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Kramer Elementary School cafeteria, 400 W. Sycamore St., Oxford. The board will discuss the possible construction of a new Kramer Elementary School.

2 Miami groups perform at Rock Hall of Fame

Two Miami University groups were selected to be part of a program at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland. The Oxford Chamber Orchestra and The Mergers performed as part of the National Conference of the College Orchestra Directors Association.

Wade named to dean’s list

Emily Wade, of Oxford, has been named to the dean’s list of Macalester College for the fall semester of the 2012-13 school year.

Wade is a graduate of Talawanda High School and the daughter of Jennifer Wade, of Oxford.

Songs, stories at elementary school

Storyteller Bill Harley will entertain with songs and stories at 7 p.m. Jan. 25 at Kramer Elementary School, 400 W. Sycamore St., Oxford. Children ages 5 and older are invited. A reception, CD sale and signing will follow the performance. For more information, call 523-7531, ext. 218.

Talawanda earns spot on AP Honor Roll

Talawanda High School was recently one of 539 school districts across United States and Canada to be honored by the College Board with placement on the 3rd annual Advanced Placement District Honor Roll. The district is increasing access to Advanced Placement courses while increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on Advanced Placement exams.

Miami students raise funds for special swing in Hanover Twp.

Miami University students have raised $4,000 for a wheelchair accessible swing in Hanover Township Park. Students presented the check to the Hanover Board of Trustees on Wednesday. The swing will be installed this spring.

Miami University students who presented the check Wednesday were Christian Puckett, Bethany Kelley, Tara Brown Hannah Ellinghausen and Alexandra Spencer.

High school/Butler Tech FCCLA receive grant

The Talawanda High School/Butler Tech FCCLA Chapter has received a Fuel Up To Play 60 grant for $2,000. The funds will be used for nutritional education and physical activities, including a “Family Fun Night” in each of the three elementary attendance areas. The event will include “hands on” nutritious snack recipes provided by a local chef and physical activities.

Preble County Spelling Bee

The following students participated in the annual Preble County Spelling Bee:

Racheal Ratliff and Sarah Willis from Eaton Middle School; Anna Wilbe and Izaak Nolan from Bruce Elementary School; Joshua Cook from National Trail Middle School; Madison Hathaway and Lauren Sargeant from National Trail Elementary School; John Stubblefield and Colin Hawkins from Tri-County North Middle School; Kaimee Knisley and Abigail Smeltzer from Tri-County North Elementary; Rylee Emig and Hunter Bennett from Twin Valley South Middle School; Thane Class and William Bowman from Twin Valley South Elementary School; Alec Hamblin and Kyle Williams from Preble Shawnee Junior High; and Emma Barnett and Kaleb Morgan from West Elkton Intermediate School.

The winner was Alec Hamblin from Preble Shawnee Junior High. The runner-up was Rylee Emig from Twin Valley South Middle School.
