SALVATION ARMY

Kettle Campaign to begin

The annual Salvation Army Holiday Kettles will be placed at the Oxford Kroger store this holiday season. Community volunteers are needed to ring the bells at the red kettles. Families and local community groups can “adopt a kettle” and spend some time ringing the bells and give a great return to the needy in the community.

Donations for the Kettle Drive can be given directly to Karen Van Winkle at the First Financial Bank, or deposited in the Salvation Army kettles stationed at Kroger. Kettles will be out and Oxford volunteers are needed every weekend beginning Friday, Nov. 23 through Monday, Dec. 24.

To sign up, “adopt a kettle” or just spend an hour or two ringing the bells, go to www.oxfordkiwanis.org and click on the Salvation Army Kettle Drive Signup. Find an open time in front of Kroger and simply put in your name/phone and organization (optional) and you will be sent a confirmation e-mail to verify time and date.

The annual kettle drive is the Salvation Army Oxford Unit’s primary means of support; 90 percent of the money collected stays in Oxford with the remainder going to Salvation Army Headquarters in Hamilton and Cincinnati. Last year the kettles raised more than $15,000 and, in cooperation with the Family Resource Center, assisted many families which were provided with food, utilities, rent and medical prescriptions.
