HAPC is accepting nominations for the 2013 Historic Marker Program. Historic properties located within the City of Oxford are eligible for awards, and nominations can be made by owners, businesses, organizations or any individual who wishes to recognize and nominate historic properties or exemplary preservation projects.

A free workshop will be held on how to gather historic information from 7 to 8:30 p .m. on Thursday, Dec. 13 at the Smith Library of Regional History, 15 South College Avenue. All interested applicants are welcome to attend.

The Workshop will provide an overview and orientation on how to complete the nomination application and where research information is located in the Smith Library (located within the Lane Library). There also will be a brief presentation on identifying architectural features that may help determine significant changes or dates on a structure.

Seating is limited. Please reserve your place by Dec. 5. Contact Sam Perry in the Community Development Department at 524-5204 or by email, sperry@cityofoxford.org

The deadline for marker applications is May 1, 2013. The Workshop is being provided to assist applicants with the process. The historic research for a property can take time, and applicants are encouraged to start early.
