HAMILTON —

Emergency crews searched the Great Miami River for slightly more than two hours Thursday after receiving a report of a possible drowning but found nothing.

Dispatchers received the call around 3 p.m., and police and fire department personnel responded to the river just north of the Black Street bridge shortly thereafter to investigate.

“It was one person who called and thought that they saw a person splashing,” said Hamilton Police Detective Rich Burkhardt.

An officer on the scene reported the river to be filled with many ducks flapping around, which may have appeared from a distance to be a person in distress, Burkhardt said.

At one point, bystanders on the river’s edge pointed to the water and a helicopter assisted in the search, which was called off at 5:28 p.m.
