Council approves reconstruction project for College Avenue

By Pete Conrad

OXFORD —

Oxford City Council approved a resolution at its meeting on Nov. 20 for the reconstruction of College Avenue from Spring Street to High Street, accepting a bid if $456,479 (not counting 10 percent contingency) from Adleta Construction, Inc.

The street construction will begin immediately following Miami University’s graduation in May, 2013, and is expected to be completed no later than July 15 of next year.

The Ohio Public Works Commission will provide funding of $395,000 for the rehabilitation project, which will consist in part of the removal of the existing road brick and the installation of a new aggregate sub-base, a 10-inch concrete base and 1-inch sand blanket.

“The bricks are somewhat than what we have on High Street,” Service Director Michael Dreisbach said. “You might see a slight transition in color once you get to the third block.”

Prior to the road improvements, according to Dreisbach, Oxford’s Wastewater Collection Division will install new sanitary and storm water sewers within the project limit. This project will start on March 10, in conjunction of Miami’s spring break, and will be completed in approximately four weeks.

In other council business:

• Following the second reading, council approved the 2013 budget with appropriations totaling $33,597,461, including a 2 percent cost of living increase for all full-time employees, a 0.1 percent increase in general fund operating expenditures and capital spending of $3,370,400.

The next council meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
