SOUTHWEST OHIO —
Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek said there will be a 30-degree drop in temperatures from today to the end of the weekend.
A high temperature of around 78 degrees is expected today, and come Sunday, the high is expected to be around 48 degrees.
Today will be the last day of the unseasonably warm weather as the cooler temperatures move in starting Friday, along with the chance of rain.
Clouds will build throughout Friday, with rain showers arriving in the afternoon and continuing into the night. Highs Friday are expected to be in the mid to upper 50s.
Saturday will be coolers with highs predicted to be in the lower 50s, and the rain will stick around throughout the morning, before tapering off in the afternoon.
Lows overnight Saturday into Sunday are expected to approach the freezing mark, with temperatures only rebounding to the upper 40s for Sunday’s high temperature.
Light snowflakes possible next week
If Hurricane Sandy follows some of its forecasted tracks, Southwest Ohio could see some autumn snowflakes next week.
Though it is a very slight chance, according to News Center 7 meteoroligists, who said it’s still a little too early to tell.
The computer forecast model tracks from the National Hurricane Center “definitely show a consensus to move it north then west into western New York of Pennsylvania middle of next week,” said News Center 7’s Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson. “By then it will not be very strong, but as it moves west — assuming it does so — it will continue to push chilly air,” he said.
As the remnants of Hurricane Sandy spread some moisture westward into Ohio, Southwest Ohio residents could see the first snowflakes of the fall season overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, Simpson said. “Right now I’d only put a 10- to 20-percent chance on this, but this is not an unprecedented scenario for the end of October by any means.”
