HAMILTON — Police said officers used pepper spray to subdue a man who damaged a police cruiser after being arrested for failing to show up for a court date.

Joseph Scott Huffman, 36, of the 200 block of North E Street, was charged with resisting arrest and vandalism, according to the arrest report.

Officers responded Friday night to the suspect’s home where he reportedly had been threatening family members, according to the report. Police said the suspect was spotted at a neighbor’s house, where he was arrested. The suspect was put in the back of a police cruiser where he kicked out a rear window and damaged the door frame, police said. The suspect agreed to stop kicking after being hit with pepper spray, police said.

Huffman failed to show up for a court date and didn’t follow court orders regarding a June 2011 theft, according to Hamilton Municipal Court records. He is due to appear Oct. 6 on the theft charge, according to court records.
