November is important month for older adults

By Steve Schnabl

With election season, Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving upon us, many of us experience a renewed sense of patriotism, pride and thankfulness in the month of November. As president of Partners in Prime, I know these sentiments resonate especially within the older adult community. During this season, more than ever, our goal is to be your civic resource.

Lynn Edward Kincaid, director of the Butler County Board of Elections, recently spoke at the West Chester Activity Center, noting the impact made by older adult voters at the polls. With the highest voter turnout of any other demographic, the older adult population is also credited with proactively researching issues and candidates and making well-informed decisions. This notion of civic duty is often used to characterize this generation. Without a doubt, older adults have the propensity to influence election decisions both locally and nationally.

One example that comes to mind is the Middletown Senior Center’s proposed tax levy. With Baby Boomers composing a little less than half of the city’s population, their voting influence is significant. With strong backing of this levy, older adults in Middletown can continue to enjoy the wonderful resources offered by their local senior center.

As the month progresses, we turn our attention to celebrate and support area veterans. To show our appreciation — and in the spirit of Thanksgiving — we will be hosting our annual Veteran’s Day/Harvest Luncheon on Thursday, November 15. This is a great opportunity for the community to support and pay tribute to our Veteran’s group. Please feel free to join us for lively and seasonal entertainment.

We encourage everyone to consider stopping by our bi-monthly Veteran’s Group sessions. These men and women who have served our country play an important role at our Prime Clubs as leaders and educators. Previous sessions have featured important community leaders, such as Sheriff Rick Jones, Hamilton Mayor Pat Moeller and County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser.

Finally, on behalf of Partners in Prime, I’d like to take the time during this season to thank our many volunteers, business sponsors, and contributors; we couldn’t accomplish all we do without your help.
