As part of the American Heart Association’s annual “Go Red for Women” initiative, some events are scheduled this weekend with the goal of encouraging local ladies to check up on their heart’s healthiness.

The Fort Hamilton Hospital on Eaton Avenue in Hamilton has already started the party today, Feb. 5, with a day of activities in the main lobby. A fashion show is scheduled. The events are free.

In Cincinnati, the 7th Annual Heart Ball kicks off at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza. The black-tie affair will honor 20 years of The Samuel Kaplan, MD Visionary Award honorees and Claire Phillips, recipient of the Heart of the City award. Auctions will also take place.

Sponsored by Mercy Health Partners, the Young Hearts Society’s “Red Heart Lounge” is the Heart Ball after-party and will be open from 9 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday. It is also at the Hilton.

On Feb. 13, radio station Q102 will host its Little Red Dress Party featuring the Naked Karate Girls. The event is presented by Pure Romance and MGD 64 at The Redmoor in Mount Lookout. Doors open at 8 p.m. and a portion of the $15 cover goes to the “Go Red for Women” campaign. Tickets are available at www.wkrq.com.

“Martha Stewart Living” magazine is offering a national incentive for support of “Go Red for Women.” Anyone who donates $50 or more to the American Heart Association may receive a one-year subscription free. For information visit www.goredforwomen.org/marthastewart.

Statistics from the AHA show that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women and that an estimated 450,000 die because if it every year. The AHA is seeking to raise $100,000 by Feb. 12 for research and programs. To donate, visit www.americanheart.org.
