PARTNERS IN PRIME

Celebrating National Senior Center Month

By Steve Schnabl

Contributing Writer

September is always an exciting month at Partners in Prime, as we celebrate National Senior Center month including Senior Health and Fitness Day on Sept. 28. Because optimal physical, social and spiritual wellness enhances everyone’s quality of life, we make it a priority to have something for all 1,300 of our area members, and any other older adult in the area who wants to join.

From line dancing, tap dancing and Zumba, to our Keep On Movin’ exercise class and much more, our dance and exercise classes are both exciting and well-attended. Most importantly, perhaps, it’s a great way to have fun while exercising and improving endurance and cardiovascular health.

We also host a variety of other activities Monday through Friday that are designed to stimulate and promote continuous learning and growth at any age. Members enjoy quilting, wood carving, painting and language classes. Also, our special events and community programming serve to educate inform and entertain across a range of relevant topics including, wellness tips, caregiver support groups and volunteer opportunities.

Our spa services, available at our Hamilton and West Chester location (known as the West Chester Activity Center), are also popular amenities at our clubs, especially Reiki, a deeply relaxing energy massage and ortho-bionomy, a massage to reduce pain and stress.

In addition to being a wellness resource for older adults in Butler County, we are also an aging advocate in the community. We respond to approximately 130 calls each month from community members inquiring about anything from the importance of flu shots and driving classes to information about retirement, Medicaid and prescriptions.

Activities and programming help older adults maintain their quality of life and active lifestyle. Our prime clubs in Hamilton, Fairfield and West Chester have given us a tremendous opportunity to enrich the lives of older adults in southwestern Ohio, as do those at the other senior center organizations in Oxford, Middletown and the surrounding counties.

Join us this month as we continue to raise awareness about the benefits of senior centers and roll out our new fall lineup of informative guest speakers, dances, wellness classes, volunteer opportunities and more.
