Oxford Kiwanis Club members say they are in the thick of activities to help local people struggling with the nation’s economy, and they have installed a new slate of officers to lead the way in the club’s activities for the coming year.

Installation was conducted at the club’s Sept. 29 luncheon meeting by outgoing district Lt. Gov. Mike Rudolph, a member of Oxford Kiwanis.

Scott Rein moved up to club president for the coming year, while Judith de Luce advanced from vice president to president-elect. Germaine Vonderhaar was installed at vice president.

Charlie Bowers, the club’s president for the past year, will now serve a year on the board of directors as Immediate Past President.

Three members were installed to continue in offices they have already held. They were: Jim Coon, secretary; Doti Lackey, treasurer; and Chris Church, assistant treasurer.

“This is a very, very important year in terms of finances and needs,” Rudolph told Kiwanians. “People’s needs are climbing all the time and I’m so proud of what we are doing as a club.”

He noted the Kiwanis system of having the top three officers rotate into higher offices gives the club continuity. He said Vonderhaar now has two years to learn more about the club’s leadership roles before becoming president.

Further, he said de Luce’s role as president-elect will give her experience to step into that role in a year.

He said she will have a crucial role for the club in the coming year, however, serving as chairwoman of the Pancake Day committee next spring. Pancake Day is the club’s primary fundraiser each year.

Bowers thanked members for their confidence in him for his year as president this past year.

“I am humbled by the whole thing. Thanks go to infinity. It’s been a blizzard of a year,” he said.

He gave members of his leadership team prints of flowers by his wife, Marjorie, using ”floreography” in which each person was given a print of a flower representing attributes of each person.

Rein presented him with a plaque of appreciation from the club for his year as president.
