Staff Report 8:32 AM Tuesday, July 21, 2009

John Kogge and the Lonesome Strangers will perform Thursday, July 23, at the Oxford Summer Music Festival at the John W. Altman Pavilion sponsored by Cox Publishing/Oxford Press and McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital and staff.

This band has been together for more than 14 years and has performed from Dallas, Texas, to Wheeling, W.Va.

John Kogge and the Lonesome Strangers have developed into a truly entertaining concert experience while bringing their unique American folk music to life.

The band plays an exciting mix of original sounds and just about anything else in a style that has been described as acoustic schitzoid blue folkabilly rock.

The musicians feature many Oxford natives including John Kogge on vocals, acoustic guitar, songwriting; Adrian Martin on vocals, acoustic guitar, songwriting; and Doug Hamilton on violin, mandolin and vocals.

Laurie Traveline from Cincinnati will be on vocals, keyboards, squeeze box and songwriting. Also, Vance Wissinger from West Milton will be performing on bass guitar and vocals.

Concerts are free and supported by sponsorship each week. The Oxford Visitors and Convention Bureau organizes the series each year. Concerts are from 7:30 to 10 p.m. each Thursday evening.
