The Fourth of July is always filled with family cookouts, pool days and fireworks. Oxford is definitely keeping up with tradition this year.

The city of Oxford has planned a series of events for anyone in the community to come and celebrate. This year, however, the emphasis of the activities will be on Friday, July 3, with the fireworks shifting to that night instead of on the Fourth itself. There will be the traditional pool activities on Saturday, July 4.

Friday, June 3, kicks off the celebrations with the Penny Carnival at 5:30 p.m. in the Uptown Parks. You will be able to enjoy music from the Oxford Community Band, games, an inflatable fire truck slide and Dalmation bouncer, Freedom Train and more.

There will be concessions for sale.

Continuing Friday’s festivities community members are invited to the Parade, also at the Uptown Parks, at 7 p.m. The city of Oxford is encouraging businesses and families to participate, as well as coming to celebrate.

Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to decorate their bikes and will ride in the children’s bike parade. Pet owners are invited to dress up their pet and walk them in the pet parade. Participants in these parades will receive a gift bag. Prizes will also be awarded for parade floats.

At 8:30 p.m. the celebration continues at the Ditmer parking lot on S.R. 73. D.J. Toad will be there to play all of your favorite music and concessions will be for sale.

At dark, the Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks, will begin.

Bring your own blanket or lawn chair to watch the show.

On Saturday, July 4, the pool activities begin. From noon to 4 p.m. bring your family and friends to the Oxford Municipal Pool. There will be a D.J., pool games and prizes for everyone to enjoy. Admission is free from noon to 7 p.m.
