Critically acclaimed vocalist Helen Welch will be performing at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts on Saturday.

“I saw Helen three years ago and booked her at the Fitton Center because of her dynamic, charismatic stage presence,” said Elaine Hemmelgarn, director of development at the Fitton Center.

Welch is known for her live performances, exploring a diverse range of musical compositions from the 1930s up to the present day, as well as engaging heavily with the audience.

“She performs in a very intimate setting,” said Hemmelgarn. “She will walk about the crowd and sing to audience members. She is very engaging when she sings.”

Audiences will be amazed by the song selections, whether Welch is singing a song by “the Queen of Jazz,” Ella Fitzgerald; rocking out with a song by Sting or digging deep inside herself to sing a moving song by Elton John.

Welch, who is originally from England, is known for her ability to take songs that have stood the test of time and making them her own. She has played many world-renowned stages and has performed with top orchestras.

Welch’s whirlwind career has led her across the Atlantic to America, where she stared in a Broadway musical, the journey being made into a documentary for BBC.

After the performance there will be a free reception with free beer and wine as well as the chance to talk with Welch or get a CD signed.
