Pyramid Hill’s Art Fair plans range of styles

Guests can talk to artists, watch them create

Pyramid Hill will be sponsoring its 10 annual Art Fair on Saturday and Sunday, with more 80 artists, ranging from amateurs to professionals, displaying their art inside the park.

And do not expect only sculptures. The artists on hand will be displaying art ranging from ceramics and jewelry, to high-end crafts and paintings. The eclectic blend of many different types of art and creativity promises to be one of the most diverse art fairs at the park yet.

“We had groups of painters to sculptures to people who work with clay to all type of eclectic artists,” said Joe Statzer, publicity director for Pyramid Hill.

With more than 80 artists from across the country confirmed for the event, it should be an exciting show for anyone attending.

Some of the artists include Dina Cain, a painter from Centerville (just south of Dayton), Ohio, who recycles old, vintage roofing slate and transforms it “usable” art.

Cain said that the heavy slate pieces are going to make it difficult to set up her booth, but she said she tries not to think about it. “I try to focus on the fact that I get to do what I love,” said Cain. “And bring happiness to the people that will enjoy looking and, possibly purchasing, a piece of my art.”

Another local artist, Lawrence Kearns of Oxford, Ohio, who makes wheel thrown, functional stoneware with his studio partner Sam Hitchman, said he was excited to be part of a show where people can stop by and say hello.

One of the most intriguing artists attending the show are the mother/daughter team of Terri Eilermann and Shawn Farrell who take anything from broken dishes to stained glass to create intricate mosaics of tree and natural items.

Eilermann described the two-dimensional pieces as being the Art Deco style or Frank Lloyd Wright Southwest styles, with many different earthy colors.

Aside from the artists, one of the most interesting parts of the art fair is being able to watch the artists make their art on site, talk to artist and buy the piece immediately as they finish.

The family friendly event will have face-painting, rope-winding, stilt walkers, balloon animals and other fun activities for the children, as well as live music adding to the already creative atmosphere.

“There is nothing like the Pyramid Hill Art Fair, with the incredible natural setting of the park and the fall colors beginning to emerge,” said Statzer. “There are so many artists and so much to see and do, visitors to the Art Fair always have a great time. This year’s event promises to be better than ever.”
