No Ohio National Guard personnel were injured in the shooting rampage at Fort Hood on Thursday, Nov. 5, the Ohio Adjutant General’s Department said.

Ohio National Guard units sometimes process through the Army base in Texas to prepare soldiers for mobilization or demobilization, but none are currently stationed there.

There are 16 Ohio National Guard soldiers stationed at Fort Hood, but the National Guard’s state headquarters made contact with those soldiers and confirmed none of them were at the site of the rampage.

One soldier is there on medical hold after a recent deployment and 15 are involved in the Operation Warrior Training program.

“They volunteered to stay on active duty and assist in training of others who have yet to deploy,” Capt. Michelle Smith said Friday.

The alleged shooter, Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a military psychiatrist who recently completed training in treating traumatic stress disorder, opened fire on a group of soldiers preparing to deploy to Iraq, killing 13 and wounding 30. Hasan is in custody and expected to live, despite having been shot multiple times, base commander Lt. Gen. Robert Cone said.
