  Hamilton's Vincent Blanda was found guilty of shaking his infant daughter Brooklynn to death Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, in Butler County Common Pleas court. He was sentenced to 23 years to life in prison on Monday, Jan. 22, 2010.

  Middletown police responded to a report of shots fired in the 1300 block of Hood Avenue on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010. On Friday, neighbor Michael Maloney was arraigned on two counts of felonious assault with a weapon, two counts of endangering children, improper discharge of a firearm and inducing panic.

  About 50 people attend a candlelight vigil on Jan. 19 offering prayers for Phyllis Mays of Liberty Township. A 14-year-old is charged with raping and robbing the 64-year-old at her home.

  A Marine, Cpl. Joshua Hartzell (22), from Hamilton and a 2006 graduate of Ross High School was found dead in North Carolina on Friday, Nov. 6, a victim of an apparent homicide.

• Dr. Mark Blankenburg sentenced

  Hamilton pediatrician Dr. Mark Blankenburg was sentenced to 21 to 27 years in prison Friday, Jan. 8, 2009. Just over a year after first being indicted for molesting former patients, Blankenburg was classified as a Tier II sexual offender in Butler County Common Pleas Court.

• Bodies found shot to death

  The bodies of a man and woman found shot to death in the parking lot of Jellybean Junction daycare facility in Fairfield had gunshot wounds to the head. The bodies were discovered by a lawncare service employee in a Jeep Cherokee at Mack and Winton Roads around 9:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26 -- three hours after the daycare center opened.

  Accused bathtub killer Ryan Widmer was released from jail today, Sept. 4, after posting a $400,000 bond and a day after an appeals court ruled he deserved a new trial.

• Biggest heroin bust in county history

  The Butler County Sheriff's department narcotics unit in conjunction the Clermont County Sheriff's department arrested three suspects Tuesday, September 1, 2009, in the biggest heroin bust in Butler County history. The arrest confiscated around $200,000 worth of heroin, $66,000 in cash and 2 hand guns.

• Prostitution sting nets 6

  Fairfield undercover agents assisted the Hamilton Police Vice Section in making six arrests as part of a prostitution sting on the East Side, according to Hamilton police spokesman Rich Burkhardt.
