Oxford police arrested a pair of intoxicated subjects who were allegedly in the middle to stealing a stop sign on Nov. 8.
Officers found the lower bolt missing from a stop sign at the intersection of Vine Street and University Avenue, with a group of people gathered nearby. The subjects reportedly started to scatted when police pulled up, but officers said they observed a 20-year-old Miami University student place a wrench in his pocket.
The student smelled heavily of alcohol and admitted to consuming some earlier in the night, police report. He was placed under arrest and search, at which point police located the wrench.
Police said he admitted involvement in an attempt to remove the stop sign, telling them he had helped balance an 18-year-old woman as she worked to remove bolts holding the sign to a post. The woman, who police report had leaves on her back and in her hair, told police she had been unbolting the sign, but did not admit to consuming any alcohol.
