OXFORD — The son of U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot has been charged with breaking and entering, according to Oxford police.

Officers responded to a fire alarm at the McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital annex building on Morning Sun Road at 2:05 a.m. Sunday and outside found Brandon “Randy” Chabot, a 22-year-old Miami University student, according to a police report.

Randy Chabot allegedly told police he worked in the building and had been inside, according to the report. He was described by police as intoxicated. Officers found two window panes kicked out and marks they said matched Chabot’s shoes.

Chabot was charged with breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony, and making false alarms, a first-degree misdemeanor, according to the report. At the police station, he told authorities he was likely confused about where he was at the time of the incident, according to the report.

Steve Chabot, who has represented the 1st District (Butler and Hamilton counties) for 15 years, issued this statement:“Every family faces challenges at times. Ours is no different. He’s our son and we love him.”

Randy Chabot is scheduled to appear in Butler County Area I Court on Feb. 16.
