Cincinnati casino hiring starts Wednesday

By Chelsey Levingston

Staff Writer

Hiring begins Wednesday for dealers and supervisors for the casino to open in downtown Cincinnati next year.

Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati is accepting applications starting Wednesday until Sept. 16. Recruiters are looking to fill about 750 table game and poker dealers, and game supervisors, with plans to do more hiring for other types of casino jobs as things move closer to the opening.

The casino is set to open next spring. Dealers will staff 85 game tables and a World Series of Poker room in the 24-hour casino.

Butler and Warren county residents have a good chance of getting a job, as casino operators have committed to hiring 90 percent of the work force from Greater Cincinnati. Ultimately, the casino is expected to create 1,700 permanent full- and part-time jobs.

The reason to recruit early for dealers is because of the training that’s required, said Jennifer Kulczycki, spokeswoman for Horseshoe Cincinnati.

“We realize there’s not going to be a lot of existing casino experience and actually that’s okay, because we’re looking for a good attitude and customer orientation,” Kulczycki said.

Applicants who make it through interviews will be invited to attend dealer training. It takes about 12 weeks to train dealers. At the conclusion of training, Horseshoe Cincinnati will make hires for dealers, she said.

Pay has not been set in Cincinnati, but dealers at Rock Ohio Caesars’ Cleveland casino opened this year earn $17 to $22 on average an hour, including tips, she said.

Applications will be accepted online at www.horseshoecincinnati.com. No experience is necessary, however, casino operators said candidates must:

— be 21-years-old;

— have a high school diploma or GED;

— be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays;

— be willing to attend several weeks of free training on own time prior to the casino opening;

— submit to a drug test and background check; and,

— fulfill requirements to be licensed by the Ohio Casino Control Commission.

This is round one of hiring, Kulcyzycki added. She said the next round will likely be more for administrative type positions, such as accounting and marketing. The last big round will probably be hiring for food and beverage positions.

Construction for the $400 million casino began last year off Broadway Street in Cincinnati. The casino is owned and operated by Rock Ohio Caesars, a joint venture of Rock Gaming LLC and Caesars Entertainment Corp.
