Massage therapist added to McCullough-Hyde staff
Friday, January 02, 2009
McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, Oxford, has announced the return of massage therapy as a regular service.
Emily Gerberick-Douglass joined the McCullough-Hyde Hospital's Wellness Department in October. Gerberick-Douglass has been a licensed massage therapist since 2003, having graduated from the S.H.I. Integrated Massage school in Lebanon. She has been in private practice in Oxford since graduation.
Massage is right for people of all ages and backgrounds because it provides a non-invasive, drug free approach that boosts the body's natural ability to heal itself.
Gerberick-Douglass said the benefits of massage include, but are not limited to:
• Increasing circulation which brings increased oxygen and nutrients to tissues and vital organs.
• Increased lymph flow which boosts the body's natural defense to toxins.
• Removes soreness by removing waste from muscle tissue, softening over-used muscles and decreases spasms. Increases flexibility and range of motion in joint.
• Reduces recovery time from strenuous workouts.
• Releases endorphins which are the body's natural pain killers. Thus massage helps in pain management.
• Reduces adhesions, edema and scar tissue, so it is a benefit post-surgery.
• Decreases potency and length of migraines and tension headaches.
Massage therapy is offered at the McCullough-Hyde Medical Building located at 5151 Morning Sun Road.
