MIDDLETOWN — A Middletown man is being held in the city jail without bond after he allegedly held a female acquaintance against her will for several days and raped her.
Doug Cope, 33, of Middletown, fled a home in the 2400 block of Flemming Road around 5:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, after police showed up to investigate reports of a disturbance involving Cope and the woman at an unspecified location, police said.
Police found Cope at 9:40 p.m. in a basement of a home in the 1500 block of Woodlawn Avenue and arrested him without incident, according to a statement issued late Sunday night by Middletown police Lt. Rodney Muterspaw of the criminal investigation division.
Cope allegedly threatened the woman's family with physical harm if she contacted the authorities during her abduction, police said.
He is charged with rape, kidnapping, intimidation of a witness and obstructing official business. More charges may be added at a later time.
